It was laid-back, meaningful, full of laughter, and topped off with a sunset rainbow that none of us expected. After browsing shelves of used books, metaphysical titles, records, and art, you step outside into a peaceful garden. Follow the path and you’ll find a small white chapel tucked into the greenery.
That’s the Garden Wedding Chapel — and it’s where Senteno and Katie decided to say their vows.

I’ve known from the moment we started planning that Senteno and Katie weren’t looking for a grand production or anything overly staged. They’re fun, easygoing people who wanted their wedding to feel like them: family first, focus on what matters, and enjoy the day as it happens.
When they arrived, there was no panic, no big checklist energy. Just hugs, excitement, and a genuine calm. Their ceremony had lots of laughs and a few tears, and the whole exchange of vows felt like a conversation between two people who really know each other. That’s the kind of moment that’s a gift to photograph, honest and unscripted.
After the ceremony, everyone slowly filtered out into the garden courtyard, greeting the newlyweds. The rain that had rolled through earlier left everything smelling clean and looking vibrant. The greens in the garden popped, and the slightly overcast light created that perfect soft portrait lighting I always hope for.
Morro Bay: The Perfect Mix of Coastal Calm + Adventure
One of the best things about choosing Morro Bay as a wedding location is that you can have a completely relaxed ceremony, and within minutes be standing on top of coastal bluffs looking out at the ocean. It’s an ideal combination of convenience and scenic beauty. The Central Coast has so many wedding venues, but not many give you the option to shift from a calm garden to wild coastline within the same hour.
We headed to the dunes and sandy bluffs just north of town, the kind of spot where the wind moves through the tall grass and you can hear waves crashing below. Morro Rock stood in the distance, the town stretched out beneath us, and the clouds were still moving fast from the earlier storm.
These kinds of environments are my favorite — slightly unpredictable, a little wild, and always cinematic.
A Rainbow, Because Why Not?
As we started shooting portraits, the sun pushed through the clouds just enough to create warm backlight. And then, out of nowhere, a rainbow appeared. Actually, a double rainbow. I swear I’m not making that up, you’ll see it in the photos.
The timing could not have been better. Senteno and Katie were already laughing, moving, and just enjoying being newly married… then the rainbow showed up and turned the moment into something you would think was staged. It wasn’t. We just happened to be in the right place at the right time, dealing with typical Central Coast weather that likes to keep us guessing.
From a photographer’s perspective, it was an absolute jackpot: golden hour + post-rain glow + dramatic coastal sky + rainbow. Pretty much all the elements you hope for, showing up at once.
I had them walk hand-in-hand along the sand, stop for wide scenic shots, then pull in close for some tighter images with the rainbow rising behind them. Katie’s dress caught the light beautifully, the layered fabric lit up softly around her, and Senteno’s brown suit contrasted perfectly with the dune grasses and the colorful bouquet. Everything felt intentional even though the weather made it all improvised.
The wind played with Katie’s veil just enough to give us some natural motion, and every now and then Senteno would crack a joke, which always works better than any posing direction I could give.
